MCMC has ensured that the investigation of the issue will be carried out in a transparent and fair manner.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched investigations into consumer complaints regarding reduced upload speeds for the Unifi 500Mbps broadband plan launched by Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) on last month.

MCMC, in a statement today, said that the details of the complaint indicated that TM had offered an upload speed of 200Mbps for the Unifi 500Mbps broadband package.

After checking TM’s official website, MCMC said that the plaintiff found that the package had changed since September 2 and that the upload speed was halved to just 100 Mbps.

“This complaint was also reported by various online news portals who believed that users had been misled by the package that was announced last month,” he said.

MCMC said it will not hesitate to take action against the service provider if initial investigations find that there are elements that violate the interests of consumers.

The Communications and Multimedia Law of 1998 pays close attention to the interests of users of telecommunications services, MCMC said, adding that the commission assured that the investigation on the matter will be carried out in a transparent and fair manner.
