PETALING JAYA: Former State Co Hee Loy Sian (Photo) It should resign for failing to address the contamination that caused the unscheduled water outages in parts of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, MCA says.

Its head of publicity, Chan Quin Er, said the public had valid reason to be outraged by the latest water disruption and that Hee, who heads the Environment, Green Technology, Science, Technology and Innovation and Consumer Affairs portfolio, should be reprimanded for persistent problems.

She added that the decent thing for Hee, who is also the PKR assemblyman for Kajang, would be to resign as an exco member if she couldn’t handle the job.

“We are fed up with your same pathetic line of continually asking violators to follow standard operating procedure (SOP).

“If they had been following the SOP, this would not continue to happen,” he said in a statement yesterday.

On Thursday, the unplanned water outage affected 1,292 areas in seven districts of Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

Hee told the media that the culprit for the pollution that caused the water outage on Thursday was a repeat offender.

Chan also criticized the Selangor government, saying that it should make concrete plans to relocate these factories that had caused contamination of water sources.

“Factories have no reason to be located near waterways. The unscheduled water outage has not only bothered thousands of consumers, but has also jeopardized economic activities, ”he said.

“Millions of ringgit would have been phased out as production was severely disrupted.”

Chan also claimed that state authorities had been indifferent when dealing with factories with dangerous chemicals.
