PETALING JAYA: In a year marked by the new normal, Malaysians are urged to celebrate Christmas and the end of the year holidays by putting differences aside, following the SOP and remembering the avant-garde.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that Christmas should be a time to unite regardless of faith.

“In this Christmas celebration, let us make our diversity our strength. History claims that mutual respect between races and religions led to the advancement of a civilization as demonstrated by Andalusian Muslims and Christians in the past, ”he said.
He also called for Malaysians to celebrate Christmas in modesty despite the fact that interstate travel is allowed.
“Practice the new normal. I also pray that leaders and security personnel, as well as Malaysians abroad, can celebrate Christmas with joy, “he said.
Transport Minister and MCA President Datuk Seri Dr. Wee Ka Siong said that although many were forced to be separated from their loved ones this Christmas due to the MCO, one could still be together in their thoughts.
“May our love for each other unite us when the pandemic separates us. In this season of giving, let us remember that we must support and care for those in need among us. It is during dark times that humanity shines the brightest.
“I would also like to urge all Malaysians to follow the SOP and stay safe while we enjoy the Christmas season,” he said.
Senior Ministers Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf also sent their best wishes.
“The spirit of Christmas makes it a season of joy and happiness, a time for forgiveness and, most of all, for generosity, kindness and sharing,” said Azmin.
Fadillah, who is from Gagasan Parti Sarawak, said Malaysians should make the celebration of the festival a basis for strengthening unity and harmony between the races.
“Celebrate the diversity of races and religions through tolerance and mutual respect,” he said.
Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said Malaysians should put all differences aside to celebrate the occasion in the most authentic Malaysian way, with the unfortunate in mind.
“Our leaders have also sacrificed a lot to ensure that we can celebrate this festival in peace and harmony, as well as to keep us safe and healthy,” said Barisan Nasional’s general secretary.
The Minister of the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Dr. Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri, said Muslims do not need to shy away from their Christian friends at Christmas.
“Islam emphasizes the need to spread love and the spirit of brotherhood between people of different ethnic and religious backgrounds, as emphasized by Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb.
“Wishing all Malaysian Christians peace, health, happiness and prosperity in the coming year,” said Zulkifli.
The Minister of Human Resources and Vice President of the MIC, Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, said that one should remember those who lost their jobs and sources of income.
“Let’s not forget that we are still facing the pandemic. I would also like to thank our leaders for continuing to do everything possible so that all Malaysians can celebrate this festival safely and in harmony, ”he said.
The Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, said that some were not able to reunite with their loved ones during Christmas, but this should not stop the joy.
The Prime Minister’s Department Minister Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said that as a country with such diversity, it is important that Malaysians recognize and wish each other happy occasions.
“We must preserve the fabric of our beloved nation, which was built on the foundation of respect for the faith of others. On behalf of PAS, we send our best wishes to all Christians in Malaysia, ”he said.
