May 31st deadline for appeals from those who were denied Prihatin’s help

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians who did not receive Covid-19 aid funds from the Prihatin aid program have until May 31 to file an appeal with the Internal Revenue Board (LHDN).

The board said today that some applicants were rejected because they had an income above the limit, and others did not meet certain conditions, such as the age or status of full-time students.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said he was aware that some Malaysians had not received aid despite losing their source of income due to failure to comply with requirements or incomplete requests.

LHDN said 240,465 applications were received from full-time students, but were not eligible under the Prihatin scheme, but were eligible to receive a one-time payment of RM200 aid for college students.

LHDN Chief Executive Sabin Samitah said applicants who were rejected could file appeals despite losing their jobs or suffering a significant reduction in wages. They may appeal for reconsideration by filing supporting documents.

Others who could appeal include those rejected because the applicant or spouse owned a business registered with the Malaysian Business Commission. Appeals can be made by email to [email protected] or at any LHDN office.
