If you want to get broadband with an Astro pay TV package, Maxis finally offers Astro as an add-on when you sign up for their home fiber broadband plans. Previously, you could only subscribe to the TV and Broadband package through Astro. On top of that, if you get your 100Mbps option, Maxis offers a free 3x speed boost to 300Mbps.
At the moment, Maxis Home Fiber plans start from 30Mbps at RM89 / month and go up to 800Mbps for RM299 / month. If you subscribe to the 300Mbps plan and above, you will get a refund of RM 20 per month for 24 months. This is how Maxis could offer a triple speed 100Mbps upgrade, as the monthly rate difference at 300Mbps is only RM20.
For the Astro add-on, it starts from RM61.32 / month for the Starter Pack, RM80 / month for the Value Pack, and RM115 / month for the Super Lite Pack. If you don’t have a TV, you can add a Samsung 4K 65 ″ TV for just RM1 / month with contract.
The starter pack is the most affordable option where you can get the basic Malay, Chinese or Tamil pack. Meanwhile, the Value Pack allows you to choose one of 4 options for the basic package, including English, and it also comes with the Premier League package and a Mini Pack.
Despite the “Super Lite Pack” name, this is the highest option providing additional access to all sports channels and the option to choose up to 2 mini packs (in English).
The standard Astro HD set-top box has an installation fee of RM99, while the new 4K Ultra Box will cost you RM199. If you opt for the Super Lite package, the Ultra Box is offered with an installation fee of RM0.
In all, you can get 100Mbps fiber broadband (upgraded to 300Mbps), with an Astro Stater Pack and a 65 ″ Samsung 4K TV for $ 191.32 / month. If you need to watch soccer, the same setup with the Astro Value Pack can be yours for RM210 / month.
Please note that there is a 24-month contract for Astro and Maxis Fiber broadband. If you are a Maxis postpaid customer, you can enjoy unlimited quota on all lines, including add-on shared lines, when you subscribe to your fiber broadband plan.
Unlike what was previously offered, Maxis no longer offers unlimited phone calls for its 100 Mbps plan and above. Voice calls will be charged at 9 sen per minute for local calls including mobile and if you need unlimited number it will cost RM10 per month.
According to the FAQ, the rebate of RM20 / month only applies to the first 24 months. You can upgrade your Astro subscription, but downgrade is not allowed during the contract period. If you cancel your Astro TV earlier, there is a penalty of (RM1000 / 24 months) multiplied by the remaining months.
