PETALING JAYA: Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik today thanked former Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad for including him in his then cabinet, in a gesture of goodwill after resigning from Mahathir’s new party, Pejuang.

“I am grateful to Tun for making me minister of education even for only 20 months before Tun asked me to return him on January 3.

“These 20 months were more than enough to realize that the fight for education is an obligation. This obligation will not stop, no matter where it is. “

Mazlee, in a Facebook post today, wished to have a good relationship with her former mentor, with whom she fell out over political disagreements. He said that he still respected and had great admiration for Mahathir.

In addition to focusing on his constituents in Simpang Renggam, he will initiate a large-scale education reform program.

“I think the future of the country depends on education,” he said.

Previously, the former Minister of Education had said that his decision to leave Pejuang was based on “detailed observations and field research” of the aspirations and needs of the people.

The former PPBM leader added that he will continue to serve as an independent deputy and work with NGOs and activists.

“I believe that change efforts do not require power and position alone, but passion and opportunity.”
