Maszlee Malik says his decision to leave Pejuang is based on “detailed observations and field research” of people’s aspirations and needs.

PETALING JAYA: Simpang Renggam MP Maszlee Malik has resigned from Dr. Mahathir Mohamad’s new party, Pejuang.

In a statement, the former education minister said his decision was based on “detailed observations and field research” of the aspirations and needs of the people.

This comes amid speculation about his status in the party after his name did not appear in a joint press release of all Pejuang MPs yesterday.

Maszlee said she wanted to focus on the people, especially her constituents.

“I think people have been nauseated by the power and politics game of the ‘Politikus’ elite.

“What people need are politicians who focus on solving the adversities they currently face,” he said.

Maszlee, a former PPBM leader, added that he will continue to serve as an independent MP and work with NGOs and activists.

“I believe that change efforts do not require power and position alone, but passion and opportunity.”
