CYBERJAYA: Simpang Renggam MP Dr Maszlee Malik (Photo) it has launched a new movement called “Untuk Malaysia”, which it says is not a political party.
The independent legislator and former Minister of Education described Untuk Malaysia as a movement that transcended ideology, politics, race and social class, with the goal of solving problems related to education.
“Untuk Malaysia is a movement that crosses ideologies and focuses on issues related to education.
“It is not a political party,” Maszlee said at a press conference here on Wednesday (November 11).
Maszlee is one of the MPs who was aligned with former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and rebelled against Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia when he split from the Pakatan Harapan coalition.
Subsequently, he decided to withdraw from Dr. Mahathir’s Parti Pejuang Tanah Air and go his own way.
Maszlee said Untuk Malaysia will act as a platform to bridge the gap between “those who need help and those who want to offer help.”
“In my experience with the Ministry of Education, there are too many problems that need to be solved.
“Some are related to infrastructure. For example, classrooms, teacher classrooms, or bathrooms in schools that need repair. Or teachers who need teaching aids and other needs.
“There are many people who want to offer help but lack the knowledge to do so or are restricted by bureaucracy. In the end, assistance doesn’t really end up in the hands of those who really need it. So this is where Untuk Malaysia comes in, ”Maszlee said.
Maszlee also admitted that he has unfinished business after he resigned as Education Minister on January 3, during the reign of Pakatan Harapan.
“The day I stepped down as minister, I announced that I will continue to dedicate my service to education and rakyat, regardless of the position I am in.
“Position and power are not the only platforms we can serve. What is most important is the will, desire and effort that has no end, ”said Maszlee.
Maszlee said that he will remain an independent MP, who is friends with Pakatan.
“In Parliament, I will be in the opposition bloc with Pakatan. At Simpang Renggam, we are also working closely with Pakatan, ”he said.
When asked if he has any interest in joining any other political party, Maszlee said his priority is to focus on issues related to education.
“I have a formidable, compelling and strong number of people who want to contribute to education.
“For me, I want to focus on education because it is desperate. If our education receives the attention and help it needs, I fear the effects on the development of the country.
“This is where I will prioritize my efforts,” he said.
At the press conference, Maszlee also announced the launch of the website untukmalaysia.my, which is a platform for people to seek help, to initiate crowdfunding efforts, or to discuss education issues, among others.
