He had started shooting at people with an M16 assault rifle that he had stolen from his military base in Ipoh.

The then 23-year-old had entered the area on a motorcycle and launched into shootings, resulting in one death and several injuries.

Having been tried for having a diseased mind when he committed the act, he was not given the death penalty, but was committed to a mental institution for 10 years.

The reason for his sudden wave of gunfire was subject to much speculation for years, but in a book published 30 years later, Adam said he had suffered trauma in early childhood and faced hazing from his superiors in the military.
