KUALA LUMPUR: No large gatherings are allowed at New Years Eve celebrations to mark the beginning of 2021, said Chief Minister (Security Group) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pix) today.

He said the risk of spreading Covid-19 was possible if the annual celebration, which is usually held on a large scale across the country, was allowed.

“However, there are several ways to celebrate, such as privately, with families at home, etc., but this time mass gatherings are not allowed.

“This is because it will be difficult for people to practice physical distancing and it would be difficult to control the crowd,” he told a news conference on the development of the Movement Control Order (MCO) here.

In another development, Ismail Sabri said that until now, there was no proposal to re-impose inter-state and inter-district travel restrictions as implemented before.

He said the decision on the matter depended on the opinions and advice of the Health Ministry, as it would only be implemented when recommended by the ministry.

“We haven’t discussed it in detail yet. We will receive the opinion of the Ministry of Health and will make a decision after that.

“Until now, it remains as announced that interstate and interdistrict travel is still allowed,” he said.

Previously, the government decided to allow interstate and district travel across the country without police permission as of December 7, except in areas under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO). – Called
