Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah says she left Dewan Rakyat with more than 10 people when Najib Razak delivered a budget speech.

PETALING JAYA: Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah came out of Dewan Rakyat in protest against former Prime Minister Najib Razak who delivered a speech on the 2021 budget as head of the Barisan Nasional (BN) backbenchers.

The PKR MP told the FMT that this was to send a message that she could not accept that a MP convicted of corruption charges in court could still deliver a budget speech.

He said he joined more than 10 other deputies to leave the Dewan Rakyat in protest.

“Najib has been convicted of corruption, but today he is present as head of the BN deputies and debating the 2021 Budget as if nothing had happened. I protested this and left! “he said in a Twitter post.

In a separate post, citing Bersih’s first rally in 2007, Maria said that the sacrifices made by Malaysians to fight corrupt leaders should not be forgotten.

Meanwhile, Jerlun MP Mukhriz Mahathir said he was puzzled how a former prime minister convicted of abuse of power and criminal breach of trust could still speak about the budget in Parliament.

“New rule?” he asked in a Twitter post.

During his speech, Najib said that BN deputies will only support the budget presented last Friday if Putrajaya made amendments to the Supply Law, including a six-month extension to the loan moratorium and would allow a one-time withdrawal of RM10,000 from the Provident Fund for Employees. .

“Our support (for the budget) is based on these two conditions. It’s conditional support, ”he said in his 90-minute speech during the budget debate.
