IPOH (Bernama): Malaysia’s Department of Inspection and Quarantine Services (Maqis) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 23 dogs into the country.
Their Perak manager, Rozita Superman, said the dogs, of various breeds including Pomeranian, Shih Tzu and French bulldog, worth a total of RM20,000, were seized at the Pengkalan Hulu Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex ( ICQS) on Thursday (September 17). ).
He said the canines, in eight cages, were found in a truck that was in transit while en route to deliver fruit from Thailand to Singapore.
“All the dogs are without documents, including any import permits issued by Maqis or a health certificate from the country of origin,” he said in a statement here on Friday (September 18).
He said the case is being investigated under Section 11 (1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011, which sets a maximum fine of RM 100,000 or imprisonment for up to six years, or both, upon conviction. – Bernama
