IPOH: The Covid-19 detection program for foreign workers will be rolled out to the entire country starting Tuesday (February 2), says Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.

The Human Resources minister said that following the implementation of the movement control order and the announcement of the Permai assistance package, the program has been extended beyond the four states and two federal territories.

He said that the program implemented by the Social Security Organization (Socso) will be carried out with the cooperation of private clinics nationwide.

Saravanan said Socso has added another 54,000 RM for the extension of the screening program.

“The screening will use the rapid antigen test kits (RTK-Ag), and the cost of the kits will be borne by Socso.

“However, employers will have to pay the fees imposed by clinics or hospitals.

“However, employers will have to bear the full cost of the assessment for foreign workers who are not Socso contributors,” it said in a statement on Saturday (January 30).

Last month, the government had announced that the mandatory Covid-19 examination for foreign workers would begin on January 1.

Saravanan had said that employers should provide Covid-19 screening tests for their foreign workers in accordance with the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control (Measures within infected local areas (No. 9)) order of 2020 under the Prevention Act. and Control of Infectious Diseases 1988 that came into effect on January 1, 2021.

He said the program would focus on four high-risk states and two federal territories in which 800,000 foreign workers will participate.

The states are Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Sabah, and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.

Detailed information about the program, including the list of participating clinics, can be found on the PSP portal (https://psp.perkeso.gov.my).
