Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that Manchester United’s summer transfer window has not gone as planned.
United are scheduled to start their season against Crystal Palace on Saturday with a new recruit to their squad after signing Donny van de Beek from Ajax.
But the club has struggled to secure other deals, including its attempts to strike a deal with Borussia Dortmund over Jadon Sancho.

“Sometimes it doesn’t happen as planned,” Solskjaer told a news conference on Friday. “Life is not a straight line here. Sometimes things happen. There are still a few weeks left in the transfer window.
“It may happen that we incorporate someone. I work with a club and they know what I feel that this team and the squad need. Let’s see if we can add to what we have.”
United have until October 5 to bring in new players and while Solskjaer admits he would rather have fresh faces in Carrington now, the Norwegian is willing to wait if it means getting the right player.
“You always want to have as much time as possible with the players,” Solskjaer said. “I think last season shows that good players can adapt and get into a group quickly.
“Harry [Maguire] He was very late in the transfer window and had a huge impact on the team’s performances. “
The club’s struggle in the transfer market has caused frustration among fans ahead of a season in which they hoped to close the gap with Manchester City and Liverpool.
However, Solskjaer insists that it is not easy for United to get the players they want, especially during a transfer window in the midst of a pandemic.
“You cannot ignore the impact of the coronavirus,” Solskjaer said. “I think that really changed the market.
“It’s been more or less in a period where negotiations may occur. Of course, the financial uncertainty of that has added to the difficulty of predicting where we are.
“I want players in the building that we want to work with and who want to be a part of it, and who want to be here.
“One, you need the quality on the court. You also need the personal qualities and really wanting to be here, and you have to show that you want to be here. That’s really important to us as a group.
“We are looking for a small group of players who can contribute to the quality of our team, and let’s see what we can do. They are working hard and I understand that they are working hard.”
