MANCHESTER UNITED has confirmed that former player Darren Fletcher has joined Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s technical team.
The Scottish midfielder, who has not played since 2019, spent 20 years at United after going through the academy.
He made more than 340 first-team appearances between 2003 and 2015, winning five Premier League titles, an FA Cup and the Champions League.
After retiring in 2019, the 36-year-old had planned to pursue training and had been working with the U-16s since October.
Now, he will be linked with his former teammate as a member of the first team squad.
Fletcher said: “I am delighted to be returning to the club as the first team coach.
“It is a very exciting time for this young team and I am looking forward to taking the next steps in my coaching career working with Ole and his staff.”
Solskjaer spent four years with Fletcher under Old Trafford icon Sir Alex Ferguson.
And the current United manager knows that his club legend will have the same passion in his new role.
Solskjaer said: “Darren has United DNA running through his veins and he knows exactly what it takes to be a Manchester United player.
“He is at the beginning of his coaching career and his experience both on and off the court together with his winning mentality, commitment and hard work will be a great addition to the staff.”
Fletcher will be joined by familiar faces on the bench, working alongside former midfield partner Michael Carrick.
Mike Phelan, who coached Fletcher as Ferguson’s number two, is also part of the setup.
