Manager of a Muslim NGO accused of murder of a colleague

KAJANG: A manager of the Muslim NGO Ikram Malaysia was charged today in magistrates court with the murder of his colleague two weeks ago.

Hasbullah Ismail, 57, nodded to show that he understood the charge that was read to him before Judge Syahrul Sazli Md Sain. However, no motive was recorded.

Hasbullah is accused of murdering Nik Khatijah Nik Mud, 32, who was the manager of the defense department of Ikram Muda Malaysia, at a house in Taman Bangi, Jalan Reko, here between 11 p.m. on March 5 and 3 am on March 6.

The charge, under article 302 of the Penal Code, provides for the death penalty after conviction. The court set April 16 for his mention.

Deputy Prosecutor Muhammad Hairuliqram Hairuddin on trial while Hasbullah was represented by Abdul Halem Mohamad Husin.

On March 9, it was reported that the police had arrested a man to assist in the investigation of the murder of NGO staff who was found strangled to death in a house in Taman Bangi.

Her body was found by a colleague and initial checks found ligature marks on the victim’s neck.

It was believed that she had died more than 24 hours before being found.
