IPOH: A man wearing a blue Covid-19 wrist tag caused a stir after he escaped from Slim River Hospital.

Muallim OCPD Superintendent Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman said police received a call from the hospital about the incident on Sunday around 4.50pm.

“He was found near a gas station in Slim River around 6 pm by a police patrol team.

“Medical workers, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), came and took him away,” he said in a statement.

“The last test found he was negative and he was expected to be discharged on Monday morning,” he added.

Supt Sulizmie said the man, who has six criminal records, has been arrested for the cheat under Section 22 (b) of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act.

It added that the matter would also be investigated under articles 186 and 269 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants in the performance of their duties and committing a negligent act capable of spreading the infection of a life-threatening disease, respectively.
