KUALA BERANG: A child care center supervisor and six children were detained at gunpoint by a man wielding an air rifle before being mugged here.

Hulu Terengganu District Police Chief DSP Mohd Adli Mat Daud said that in the 9:30 am incident, the suspect pointed the air rifle at the supervisor’s head and ordered the victim to hand over cash.

The victim managed to push the air rifle to the side, prompting the suspect to fire a shot that struck the kitchen floor.

“The thief then grabbed the victim’s purse and a fight ensued, but the suspect managed to flee with the purse.

“The suspect also broke the louvered window in the kitchen and escaped on a motorcycle with an unidentified license plate,” it said in a statement.

He said the suspect fled with some jewelry, 4,000 ringgit in cash, a mobile phone and the victim’s personal documents.

“Preliminary investigations show that the suspect broke into the center through the back door.

“The victim and six children at the center were not injured and investigations are ongoing,” he added.
