Man Utd to Increase Security Around Ed Woodward on Transfer Deadline Day

Security around Ed Woodward will tighten around the day of the transfer deadline, in fear that the Manchester United chief executive will again be a target for irate fans.

A mob of 20 thugs sprayed paint at Woodward’s Cheshire home and threw flares and a smoke bomb in an attack on his property at the end of the last window in January.

The so-called fans were said to have been angered by the lack of transfer activity, despite United was close to sealing a £ 47 million deal for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes at the time.

Now, with United struggling to match the spending of some of their top six rivals in the current window, there has been mounting anger again from fans who are frustrated that they failed to achieve the number 1 transfer goal, Jadon Sancho.

It is understood that since the January attack, the level of security at Woodward’s home in Cheshire has increased.

And it is believed that it will be in full force for the next few days and the window will close on Monday.

Woodward, his wife and their two children also have a house on the outskirts of London where they spend most of their time.

None of his family were at the Cheshire residence when he was the target of an attack that was filmed and shown on social media.

United and the soccer community condemned the cowardly assault.

Disturbing images were shared on social media when an enraged mob attacked Ed Woodward’s home in January.

On Saturday night, the club insisted they had no up-to-date concerns for Woodward’s personal safety.

However, the club’s hierarchy believes that the public outbursts of former Old Trafford star Gary Neville, an outspoken critic of Woodward’s performance in transfer transactions, have been both inflammatory and disruptive.

Just last month, Neville criticized United’s failure to get the deal signed with Sancho, saying the club “has no authority or control in the transfer market.”

United insists they have always stood by their coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and claim that spending in this current window would have been significantly higher had they not been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The current crisis is believed to have cost United around £ 165 million so far, and the costly unloading of mega flop Alexis Sanchez from his books has had a serious impact on his purchasing power as well.
