MANCHESTER UNITED players believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s ‘constant tinkering’ is contributing to the club’s difficulties, according to reports.
New scrutiny has been put on the Red Devils coach after his team crashed in the Champions League at the hands of RB Leipzig on Tuesday night.
And while his team members are “sympathetic” to Solskjaer’s position, The Telegraph reports that they feel the cuts and changes have made it difficult to build partnerships in the field.
Solskjaer, 47, switched to a 3-4-1-2 formation for the second time this season against the Germans.
And with so little time between games this congested season, preparation for each formation has been hampered.
Speaking about BT Sport, Red Devils legend Paul Scholes said: “How could a football director buy a player for Manchester United?
“You don’t know if it’s going to be a [back] Three, if there are going to be two midfielders or one, you don’t know if they will play as a center forward.
“You go to games with a day’s preparation sometimes. They went three / five to the bottom [against Leipzig]. How can you possibly have time to work on it? There is no time to work on that.
“I think Ole is trying to find an identity for the team. We come here [against Leipzig] and none of us know how they are going to play, what system they are going to do, how they are going to do it, we just have no idea. “
In 16 Premier League and Champions League games this season, Solskjaer has used 11 different midfield combinations, and nine have only been seen once. The Red Devils have fallen behind in ten of these games.

The Norwegian has also experimented with nine other attacking partnerships.
‘Several players’ believe their coach was ‘sold short’ during the summer transfer window, in which they signed Alex Telles, Donny van de Beek and Edinson Cavani.
But they also yearn for “more consistency” in the selection, with a source telling The Telegraph: “There have been too many cuts and changes in personnel and systems.
“It’s not easy to build relationships in the field.”
United have mostly opted for a 4-2-3-1 system this season, with mixed results, having won six, drawn one and lost four of their 11 games with that particular tactic.
A 4-4-2 diamond has been used three times, yielding two wins and one loss.
While 3-4-1-2 has been opted for only twice, with the 2-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain the other time before Leipzig’s defeat on Tuesday night.
United bosses have maintained they are behind Solskjaer as he prepares to host Manchester City at the weekend.
But another loss could send scrutiny to another level, as the Red Devils aim to try to fight their way back to the top four.
