Mason Greenwood says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s simple advice to play with “a smile on your face” has proven crucial in his recent promotion to Manchester United.
Greenwood burst onto the scene last year, scoring 17 goals in his spectacular debut season. In fact, he especially attracted attention after the coronavirus lockdown with five strikes in nine Premier League games.

Talking to World Soccer Magazine (Through the Manchester evening news), the 19 year old revealed how the former Old Trafford striker Solskjaer was crucial in building his confidence.
“It was Ole, the manager,” Greenwood said.
“He tells all the young players who are coming: ‘Come out with a smile on your face. You’re playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world, just go out there and express yourself. You’ve been waiting for this your whole life, so just go out there and enjoy it. ‘
“Ole has been a big part of my game and development. It has helped me get to where I am now and has given me the opportunity to show everyone what I can do.
“I’m glad he’s there. He is a good coach and knows what he is talking about because he has been a great scorer in United manchester the same.
“When he talks to me, I always listen and accept his advice.”
However, Greenwood has been missing playing time of late, due to off-field problems. Among them was his decision to break Covid-19 protocols while on duty in England for the first time.
However, he returned to action on Tuesday, scoring an assist in 4-1 Champions League win over Istanbul Basaksehir.
Solskjaer compares Hasenhuttl to Klopp
Meanwhile, Solskjaer has compared Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Southampton to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
United meet Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday, with the Saints flying high in the table.
