MANCHESTER UNITED is about to land Edinson Cavani on a free transfer.

And club insiders are convinced that the Uruguayan forward can have a similar impact on the club as the cult hero Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Cavani, 33, was released by Paris Saint-Germain in June and is due to be in Manchester on Sunday before agreeing to a two-year deal worth roughly £ 200,000 a week.

As long as you pass the medical exam, there should be no problem finalizing a deal because both parties are determined to make it happen.

Some fans are already expressing fears that the move will plunge the club into a financial fiasco like the one that cost £ 66 million in salaries for Alexis Sánchez’s failure.

But sources insist that the higher ups see it more as the move that saw Ibrahimovic become a rooftop idol.

Cavani’s salary will be half the salary Sánchez had, and he is said to be desperate to prove himself in England.

And United believes it will be a boost for the development of their young forwards.

He came to PSG from Napoli seven years ago and his 200 goals made him the club’s top scorer.

Atlético de Madrid, Benfica and Inter Miami had expressed interest in him but were unable to meet his salary demands.

And while United will pay a very high salary, it is a far cry from the 108 million pounds Borussia Dortmund demanded for first-choice target Jadon Sancho.

Last night Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc insisted that Sancho was not going anywhere.

The England winger was not in the squad for Saturday’s 4-0 win over Freiburg.

But Zorc told Sky: “Jadon is our player and he has a long-term contract with us.

“He was sick, there is no reason for transfers, so Jadon does not play.”
