Manchester United’s new recruiting team is reportedly interested in particular in Sporting winger Pedro Goncalves.
Previous speculation has indicated that the Red Devils have shown initial interest in the 22-year-old.
In fact Registry (via Sports witness) I affirm that United actually zoomed in. The source does not indicate when his inquiry arrived, only that it arrived sometime in January.
However, Sporting rejected it immediately, insisting that they wanted Goncalves to stay at least until the end of the season.
United, although still interested in the far right, according to the Telegraph.
Soccer director John Murtough and manager Darren Fletcher are making in-depth transfer plans for the summer. And ‘Pote’, as he is known, is believed to be on his list.
United have been drawn to Goncalves after he scored 15 goals in 21 league games in Portugal. United is said to be looking for a right back and defender, and Goncalves would be a cheaper option than Jadon Sancho.
The Sporting striker has a £ 51.7m buyout clause, considerably cheaper than a play by Sancho this summer.
Sancho was United’s priority last summer, but they wouldn’t pay the £ 108 million England end sale price.
Recent reports have claimed that the price has reduced to around £ 88 million this summer, But it’s unclear if United will come back to haunt the 20-year-old.
Goncalves, who has played most of the season in a central position, would be a much cheaper option. The former Wolves U23 player was Bruno Fernades’ replacement at Sporting and has come a long way to fill the void.
His former Famalicao coach Joao Pedro Sousa told the BBC: “When we brought it from Wolverhampton [in mid-2019] he was a player with almost no playing time.

‘Versatile’ Pedro Goncalves
“Obviously he was not the footballer he is now. But he clearly understood the game and its different moments, something that makes a difference in high-level football. He had the opportunity to appear with me in various positions in the midfield: as a double pivot, winger and number 10.
“This season we see him in a more advanced role, closer to the goal zone, with more goal participation.
“He is revealing an ability to reach the last third and attack that I did not know, so I have to congratulate Ruben Amorim [Sporting boss] For that. It is the dream of any coach to have a player as versatile as Pedro ”.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear that he will have the final say on transfers.
It remains to be seen whether or not United will increase its interest in Goncalves. However, United could also look to other areas to strengthen this summer.
Another center is believed to be on Solskjaer’s list. But Telegraph They claim they will also look to add a young central midfielder.
