Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer warned his team about the West Bromwich Albion threat before kick-off, but it was undone in just 90 seconds.
Mbaye Diagne headed in a first game after less than two minutes at the Hawthorns after scuttling between Victor Lindelof and David de Gea to find a deep cross.
It was a miserable defense for the Red Devils, and it showed that they had ignored the advice their coach had given them before the game.
Speaking to Sky Sports before kick-off, Solskjaer warned: “You cannot give any team a chance to get the ball into your box.
“If there’s anything you know about West Brom and Sam, he’s going to challenge us, he’s going to put us under pressure.
“Stand taller maybe, be braver, put our bodies on the line. But we are here to do a job. We know it’s not going to be nice or fun. We need to do a professional job. “
But, at the first opportunity, United were caught sitting too deep and allowed a ball to be pumped into their box.
Red Devils legend Gary Neville also noted the fact that they had gone against Solskjaer’s advice.
Speaking on Sky Sports commentator duty, he said: “I saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer talk about his defenders pushing the field in his pre-game interview, well that was the exact opposite.
“West Brom was always going to put pressure on the United defense and get the ball into the box as soon as possible.
“They don’t move, Lindelof, Maguire, I said that two or three weeks ago, if you don’t change the two or three yards when the ball comes back you’re going to end up on top of your goalie.
“It’s a brilliant ball, Diagne attacks it really well and attacks Lindelof and heads De Gea brilliantly.”
