OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER has beaten Premier League clubs that voted against using five substitutes this season.
The rule was introduced after the shutdown but was not carried over to this campaign because it failed to get the required 14 votes from the 20 clubs.
While Manchester United have a stronger team than most, Solskjaer still believes that the vote will have a negative effect on players physically and mentally in what will be a congested season.
Echoing the sentiments of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, Solskjaer said: “I don’t understand and I can’t believe the vote went against it.
“We have to take care of the players and this season is the most demanding of all.
“I can see why the clubs voted against it, but if you take a step back and think about the physical and mental health of these professional footballers, the only sensible solution would have been to rest a bit more.
“We have seen some injuries, Pep has talked about it, we, as managers and medical staff of the club, have to take care of them and rest them.
“I would have liked to have five substitutes.”
Solskjaer has had to juggle his team of late with the demands of both the Premier League and the Champions League.
They have done it with good results in recent times, especially beating Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig in Europe.
Solskjaer added: “Right now, we look like a Manchester United team.
“I have competition for venues, and any successful team in the modern era of football has had the option to rest players and rotate.”
“That is the only way you can last in the most intense league in the world and with the Champions League.”
After a difficult start to the season, which included a 6-1 loss to Tottenham, Solskjaer has stabilized the boat and believes his team is up and running again.
The boss said: “I think any result as brutal as 6-1 would have to get a response.
“Of course, it has been dealt with internally, we have adjusted a couple of things and we have got the players in shape.
“I think the form of defeat is not something we have to face again.
“On the other hand, things happen in football these days and the response has been fantastic.
“We wanted to get that over with as soon as we could and move on.
“We keep working, developing, improving …
“It is not for me to say how far we have come, but I am very satisfied with the response after what we did at the beginning of the season.
“We knew we had to endure from the beginning, but now we feel strong and competitive in every game.”
The game against Arsenal will be Solskjaer’s 100th game for United.
He said: “I am surprised that it is 100 games, they have gone very fast and a lot has happened, so hopefully we can celebrate with a good result.
“Arsenal are always going to be difficult, because they are a very good team with a good coach and I am looking forward to it.”
