Man Utd boss Ed Woodward prepares to fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

United have lost two of their three Premier League games so far and entered the international break after being beaten 6-1 at home by Tottenham last Sunday.

Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has already been linked to Solskjaer’s replacement as United boss.

And according to the Sunday Mirror, Woodward has “insisted privately” that he is prepared to remove Solskjaer from his post if United’s form worsens.

The report claims that Woodward uses Liverpool as an example of a club legend who was fired in the right circumstances after Kenny Dalglish was fired in 2012.

Solskjaer faces a difficult task in the coming weeks as United take on both Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig in the Champions League, while hosting Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League.

United is reportedly monitoring Pochettino’s situation, as the Argentine remains out of work since the Spurs fired him last November.

Speaking after United’s tough loss to Spurs, Solskjaer said: ‘It’s not good enough.

And when you have a loss like this, which has happened at the club before, you just have to look in the mirror.

Now they are lucky, the boys, or I don’t know if it will be luck, but some of them are going to become international and for those who stay here, we have a good [amount of] work time.

“But we don’t see each other in ten days and that’s difficult now because we have to close the hatches and get together because that wasn’t good enough as a squad or team.”
