Man United manager Solskjaer slams fans for Van de Beek’s criticism

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has criticized fans who feel that Donny Van de Beek is not enough to improve Manchester United’s squad this summer.

United have spent £ 40m on Donny van de Beek at the Netherlands international, but there is growing frustration among fans that, with just over a week before the transfer deadline, the 23-year-old the only newcomer is still this transfer window.

“I think you show Donny a little respect when you say that he was the only one, because he is a first-rate player and he strengthens our team,” Solskjaer said at a news conference on Friday.

“The different clubs should be able to do whatever they do and feel they can. We are working hard to have a competitive squad and team.”

United, which will travel to Brighton on Saturday, is still working on deals for Jadon Sancho and Alex Telles, according to ESPN sources, but time is running out as the clock ticks to the October 5 deadline. There could also be losses before the window closes, and Solskjaer has warned that any player who is not committed to the cause will have to train alone.

“The first big contribution is that they give 100% and want to be part of the team themselves,” Solskjaer said.

“They must want to be part of this team in the future, to be part of this culture. If they don’t, they will have to train alone.”

Solskjaer was forced to omit several senior players from the day’s squad due to the loss to Crystal Palace with Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Andreas Pereira, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Sergio Romero, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Brandon Williams and Diogo Dalot all lost.

The United manager has accepted that he won’t be able to keep everyone happy, but insists he will need a great squad to cope with this season’s hectic schedule.

“There are players here who don’t have match time for sure and some of them will not be happy playing as little as they do when they feel they deserve to play more,” Solskjaer said.

“On the other hand, it’s a long and tough season, so the team you choose in the first league game will not be the same as the 10th league game and definitely not towards the end.

“It is up to each and every individual to be closer to the national team and get into the team and work hard every day.”
