Manchester United has been the victim of a “cyber attack”, the club has confirmed.
United issued a statement Friday to say that the club had been targeted by “sophisticated cybercriminals” and, although there had been disruptions, the game against West Brom on Saturday would continue.

A statement issued by the club read: “Manchester United can confirm that the club has suffered a cyber attack on its systems.
“The club has taken swift action to contain the attack and is currently working with expert advisers to investigate the incident and minimize the ongoing IT disruption.
“Although this is a sophisticated operation by organized cyber criminals, the club has extensive protocols and procedures for such an event and had rehearsed for this risk.
“Our cyber defenses identified the attack and shut down the affected systems to contain the damage and protect the data.
“The club’s media channels, including our website and mobile app, are not affected and we are currently not aware of any personal data breaches associated with our fans or clients.
“All the critical systems necessary for the games to unfold at Old Trafford are kept safe and operational and tomorrow’s game against West Bromwich Albion will continue.”
