IPOH: A former factory manager, believed to have been unhappy about being suspended, crashed his car into his workplace in the Chemor industrial area near here on Thursday (November 5).
After causing extensive damage, he attempted to set the building on fire and left the area. Shortly afterward, witnesses claimed the 52-year-old man was killed when he was walking directly into the path of an oncoming trailer.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the man drove his car to the factory office and tried to set the building on fire in the 6.40pm incident.
“He crashed his car into the human resources department of the factory, which was about 500 meters from the front door.
“Then he got out of his car and threw a Molotov cocktail,” ACP Asmadi said, adding that the man rammed his car into another room.
“The fire in the office was put out by security personnel and no other injuries were reported,” he said.
Then the man left the premises through the main entrance on foot.
“The Fire and Rescue Department was also called,” he said, adding that the man was not carrying a weapon.
The damage caused was estimated at RM1 thousand.
ACP Asmadi said that shortly afterwards, police received a report that the man had been hit by a trailer in Jalan Kuala Kangsar near the IGB industrial zone at 7.45pm.
“There were witnesses who claimed that the man had entered the road on purpose.
“We believe that the incident at the factory was due to the fact that he was unhappy about being suspended since September for disciplinary problems,” he said.
“The case is being investigated under sections 427 and 448 of the Penal Code and Section 41 (1) of the Highway Transportation Law,” he added.
