KEMAMAN: The swift action of a father and son helped save a man whose Perodua Myvi was washed away by the floods at Kampung Batu 10, near the exit of the Chukai toll plaza near here today.

Ausdi Muhamed, 53, and her son Amir Syafiq, 28, were at their home when a neighbor of the village phoned around 12:50 p.m., informing them that a car had been washed away by flooding in the area. .

“He (the villager) asked me to bring my boat as the driver was said to be still inside the vehicle. My son and I ran to the place, a kilometer from our house.

“At the scene, we saw a white Perodua Myvi floating down the road. We boarded the boat to get to the car, we managed to open the door and help the man into the boat, ”he said when reporters found him at his home today.

The car driver, who is a medical assistant at a hospital in Chukai, was reported to be on his way to work from his hometown in Bukit Payong, near Marang. He tried to go through the flooded road, but his car was swept away by the strong currents. The driver was not injured.

Ausdi said it took nearly 30 minutes to save the man, adding that the Civil Defense Force and the Fire and Rescue Department had to pull the car out of the water.

Chukai Fire and Rescue Chief Mohd Zailani Abdullah advised road users to be cautious and avoid driving on flooded roads.
