Man Investigated for Allegedly Making Defamatory Video on Facebook Against Johor Police Chief IGP

JOHOR BARU: Police are investigating a man for allegedly making a defamatory statement about Police Inspector General Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador and Johor Police Chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

Comm Ayob said the 39-year-old man had allegedly questioned Hamid’s integrity and integrity by citing a non-existent case and making a false accusation via Facebook video on Friday (November 20).

“I am open to criticism for being a norm in this line of work, but I will not tolerate statements that are false and could damage the reputation of the police before the public.

“The man in the video claimed that I have been using religion as a way to promote myself.

“He believed that all Malaysians should adhere to the five principles of the Rukun Negara regardless of our race and religion, and each religion teaches us to do good,” he said during a press conference at Johor police headquarters here on Monday. (November 23). .

He added that the Negri Sembilan man has also had 10 criminal records in his criminal record under various crimes in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Johor.

“Some of the crimes involve Section 14 of the Defamation Act of 1957, Section 90 of the Police Act of 1967 for disorderly conduct at the police station and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation,” he said.

Comm Ayob also reported that the non-governmental organization that the man claimed to represent, the Defend People’s Rights Group, is not registered in the Companies Registry (RoS).

The suspect has also previously been arrested twice in March and April of this year.

On Friday, the man uploaded the 17-minute, 39-second video via the Facebook page of an NGO, who openly named Comm Ayob and the IGP and accused them both of failing to fulfill their duties.

As of this writing, the video has reached over 200,000 views and has been shared by over 1,000 accounts.

The case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for sharing offensive and threatening content.
