KUALA LUMPUR: Four people were arrested yesterday at a roadblock in Petaling Jaya on suspicion of blackmailing a company employee for a 500 RM loan from an Ah Long (usurer) which was settled 10 years ago.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the suspects, aged 26 to 28, were detained as a result of a complaint filed by the victim who thought he had successfully paid off his loan to Ah Long .

Nik Ezanee said that the 31-year-old male victim had reportedly taken out a personal loan of RM500 from a private company in 2012 and was obliged to repay RM1,150 per month for one year.

He asked to have his ATM card, which was held by the company, be canceled because he believed he had successfully paid off the loan in 2013.

In 2016, the victim took a personal loan on a social site thinking it was a cooperative society. The victim was later contacted by a marketing agent and a friend who took him to the same company from which he had taken a loan 10 years ago.

“Agents said the victim still had RM8,000 in arrears that needed to be settled. The victim was told to return the balance within a stipulated time, ”said Nik Ezanee.

“The police verified the previous records and discovered that one of the four suspects was wanted in connection with a previous case of Ah Long,” he said.
