KENYA (ANN): A 32-year-old man who was declared dead by mistake suddenly “came to life” while on an embalming table.

Peter Kigen ended up in the morgue after an error at a hospital in Kenya, East Africa, where he was rushed after fainting at his home on November 24.

“Kigen had been suffering from a stomach illness that forced us to take him to the hospital,” his uncle told Citizen TV the next day.

Upon arriving at the center, Kigen’s younger brother, Kevin Kipkurui, said that a doctor treated Kigen. The doctor then asked Kipkurui to record the details of his older brother, according to The Standard on Nov. 26.

When Kipkurui returned from filling out the necessary documents, a nurse told him that Kigen had already died.

“Later, the nurse gave me a document to take to the morgue manager before my brother’s body was transferred to the morgue,” said the younger brother.

However, the incident finally took a strange turn a few hours later. An aide had already cut Kigen’s right leg from the formalin when he suddenly woke up screaming in pain, according to the report.

The incident shocked the employee and others close to him, who thought that Kigen had “risen” from the dead. Upon being informed, Kigen’s family “could not understand how they could transfer a person who is still alive to the morgue.”

Following the strange turn of events, Kigen is currently recovering in the hospital. Meanwhile, his family has accused the hospital of negligence.

“I can’t believe what just happened. How did they establish that he was dead? “Kigen stated while recalling the events.

“I didn’t even know where I was when I regained consciousness, but I thank God for saving my life,” he said in the report. “I will serve you for the rest of my life.”

Although the family blamed the hospital for the mishap, one of the doctors insisted that it was not. Dr. Gilbert Cheruiyot explained that Kigen’s relatives first assumed he was dead and “did not even wait for the certification of death.” He also said that he was transferred to the morgue on his own.

Dr. Cheruiyot then advised the public to follow proper regulations when taking a loved one to the hospital. – Philippine Daily Inquirer / Asia News Network
