TAMPIN (Bernama): Police detained a man in connection with the alleged abuse and subsequent death of his four-year-old stepdaughter on February 1.
Tampin OCPD Superintendent Anuwal Ab Wahab said the 30-year-old man was arrested on February 9 around 10 p.m. in front of the police station as he waited for his wife and another nine-year-old stepson who were called to give a declaration.
He said the suspect who worked as a cement truck driver was arrested after the victim’s brother informed police that the victim was often beaten by his stepfather.
“On the night of the incident, the victim’s brother heard loud beating and screaming coming from his stepfather’s room. At dawn, the victim was said to be unconscious and was taken to the clinic.
“However, the victim was pronounced dead when he arrived at the clinic, although he was given respiratory assistance,” he said on Friday (February 12).
Superintendent Anuwal said police had previously received a medical report from the Gemas health clinic about the girl who had died on February 1.
“The results of the autopsy performed at the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital revealed that the victim had suffered serious head injuries, bruises on the wrists and legs and bite marks on the body. His three left ribs were also broken.
“Kuala Lumpur hospital dental specialists confirmed that there were adult bite marks on his right hand, shoulder and wrist and the forensic department confirmed that the head injury was caused by a blunt object,” he added.
Supt Anuwal said the suspect was also positive for methamphetamine and had a criminal record for robbery.
The suspect has been placed in pretrial detention until Tuesday (February 16) and the case is being investigated under Section 31 (1) of the 2001 Juvenile Law.- Bernama
