PETALING JAYA: The Ministry of Human Resources will ensure that Malindo Airways laid off employees receive downsizing benefits from the Employment Insurance System (SIP), says Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.

He added that affected airline workers should apply for SIP benefits online through eis.perkeso.gov.my or go to the nearest Social Security Organization (Socso) offices.

“Socso will help them to find a job through the MYFutureJobs portal. Malindo Air personnel are also eligible to participate in training programs (update and upgrade) provided by Socso or the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF), where the training fees are fully supported by the government, ”he said in a released Wednesday (November 4). ).

Malindo Air said it laid off 2,647 workers since November 1. A total of 439 Malindo employees were offered unpaid leave for one year, hoping to return to work once the economy recovers, while 347 more were offered.

Voluntary separation regime (VSS). The remaining 1,861 received termination notices with minimal compensation under the Employment Act of 1955.

Saravanan said Malindo AIrways management has received assistance from the Employment Retention Program (ERP) for two months in April and May 2020.

“The ERP payment for April has benefited 2,112 employees with a payment of RM1.26 thousand, while the payments for May have been delivered to 2,478 employees for RM1.48 thousand.

“Malindo Airways has received payments from the Salary Subsidy Program (PSU) in the amount of RM240,000.00 for the month of July and August 2020 for 200 employees,” he added.

The Salary Subsidy Program is a government initiative to ease the burden on employers in terms of operating costs and indirectly, prevent employees from losing their jobs and sources of income.

Saravanan said that for 439 Malindo employees who received unpaid leave for a year, they should assume their service contracts have ended and can file for job loss claims under SIP, so they can get help financing their livelihoods. while looking for new jobs.

Saravanan said the ministry is very concerned about the problems faced by workers in the aviation sector in the country.

“The aviation sector is among the sectors seriously affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Recovery in this sector is expected to take some time until 2023, forcing employers to lay off their workers to prevent the industry from suffering further losses,” he added.
