KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will announce new developments in the Conditional Movement Control Order (MCO) in a special speech around 2 p.m. Sunday (May 10).

Regardless of what the government decides, people will have to adapt to the new normality of practicing high social discipline, observing social distancing and the importance of their social responsibility to break the chain of Covid-19 infection.

The implementation of the MCO since March 18 is now on its 54th day and has helped the Ministry of Health to control and flatten the Covid-19 curve in the country.

However, on May 4, the government imposed the conditional MCO, which allowed the reopening of almost all economic sectors, despite the fact that the fourth phase of the MCO only ends on Tuesday (May 12).

As a result, shopping malls are up and running again, people can dine in restaurants, and private vehicles can now travel up to four at a time, but all must comply with the stipulated standard operating procedure (SOP).

As long as a vaccine for Covid-19 is not found, everyone plays a role and has a responsibility to ensure that we win the battle against the coronavirus.

On Saturday (May 9), after working non-stop for almost five months, the Director General of Health, Datuk Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, received permission from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to hold the press conference daily about the pandemic.

He has been one of the key figures in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic and providing Malaysian information and statistics on the latest events of the virus outbreak in the country.

However, the Ministry provided updates in a press release, which stated that 74.8% of the total number of Covid-19 cases fully recovered and was discharged from the hospital. There were 54 new cases registered.

Once again, the public was reminded not to take the Covid-19 outbreak lightly, to embrace the new normal in public places, such as wearing face masks to avoid becoming infected with the virus, even if it is not mandatory. – Bernama
