PETALING JAYA: Malaysians are taking the extended recovery motion control (MCO) order in stride, despite having to forego their overseas trips or midnight trips to the mamak store.
For them, the extension to December 31 is for the common good.
“The rakyat must be kept safe and sound. Concerts can wait, events can continue with a limited number of people, ”said Rowena Ang, who works in the hospitality industry.
Ang, 27, said it was a good move to extend the recovery OLS as a vaccine for Covid-19 had not yet been developed.
Business owner Hafizh Rahim, 27, is pleased that restaurants can only open until midnight during the recovery MCO.
“No more nights out equals less crime, I hope,” he said.
Hafizh added that the situation was gradually returning to normal during the MCO’s recovery in regards to his work.
“But things are more expensive now, and providers are using Covid-19 as an excuse,” Hafizh said.
Official Ahmad Razif Razali, 35, is happy with the expansion of the MCO as the infections have not yet subsided.
“I feel more secure that way. We all need to cooperate to stop the chain of transmission, ”he said.
One teacher, who only wanted to be known as Emma, 37, said it was good that the MCO’s recovery was extended, although she was personally affected because her wedding had to be postponed.
“I can’t have another date or start planning anything because my wedding is supposed to take place outside of Malaysia,” Emma said.
Digital marketing executive Natasha Young admitted that she missed the freedom she enjoyed before the pandemic.
“I miss music festivals and similar events. But you better play it safe for now. Flattening the curve is definitely better than having to re-implement a stricter OLS, ”he said.
These days, I was spending time with friends at home.
“Instead of drinking outside, we just drink in a safe space. The environment is different as everything has changed since the pandemic hit us, ”Young, 28, said.
As for the New Year’s Eve celebration, he said that he would probably be telling the new year at home with close friends and family.
(Under the recall MCO, entertainment establishments such as nightclubs and pubs are not allowed to operate. However, an exception is granted for restaurants in such venues that are licensed to serve food and liquor.)
Senior executive Sue Lee, 26, said it might not help if places that serve alcohol have shorter hours of operation. “This is because most people stay in bars from 8 pm to midnight. I’ve been to bars last month and they are mostly full, ”she said.
One content writer, who only wanted to be known as Melanie, said that she would only go to bars once in a while.
Even then, I would just pick places that weren’t too crowded.
“If not, I would just go to meetings at home,” he said.
