KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has once again reiterated its position of not admitting or acknowledging any claims of any sector about Sabah.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar (pix) said the claim about Sabah, particularly from the Philippines, was not only unfounded but also irrelevant.

He explained that Sabah is a state of the Federation of Malaysia based on the decision of the Cobbold Commission in 1962, and the people of Sabah have exercised their right to self-determination to make the state of their state Malaysia.

The deputy minister said that the Cobbold Commission report was presented to the United Nations (UN) on August 1, 1962 and confirmed that more than two-thirds of Sabahans voted to join Malaysia in 1963.

“On September 14, 1963, the UN Secretary General informed the UN General Assembly that the people of Sabah had decided to join Malaysia. On September 16, 1963, Sabah officially joined the Federation of Malaysia, ”he said in response to Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun (Bersatu-Beaufort) on the status of the Philippines’ claim to Sabah in today’s Dewan Rakyat session.

Kamarudin said that whenever a statement comes up on the issue of the claims about Sabah, the Foreign Ministry will take immediate action to reject it by filing a protest note, issuing a statement to the media, or summoning the Philippine ambassador to the ministry to reaffirm. Malaysia’s position on the state of Sabah.

“The Malaysian government is very concerned and seriously takes action to raise the issue and will not back down in defending Sabah’s status from any sector that tries to tarnish its sovereignty,” he said.

Kamarudin, who acknowledged that the problem has been going on for the past 57 years, said that the Perikatan Nasional government committed to fully implement the Malaysia Agreement of 1963 (MA63), in addition to ensuring the well-being of the people in Sabah and Sarawak. .

“The 2021 Budget, which was presented recently, not only contemplates the highest allocation ever provided in the country’s history, but also for Sabah and Sarawak. This is one of the actions to ensure that the people of Sabah fully support their presence in Malaysia and to prevent any attempt by any country to seize Sabah, ”he added. – Called
