KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Armed Forces are expected to receive six MD530G helicopters in stages starting next June, Chief Security Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

However, he said that the assets had to undergo appraisal testing and meet the criteria of the military before they could be accepted.

A team of the armed forces left for the United States yesterday to carry out the tests, he said last night on the Bernama TV program “Ruang Bicara: Budget 2021”.

Another team would go to the US to carry out the certification process if the helicopters were deemed suitable for the military.

Ismail, who is also the defense minister, said the ministry was requesting the Department of Public Service to increase the number of personnel in the armed forces, especially in Sabah and Sarawak.
