Malaysia sets another record with 1,884 new cases

COVID-19 | The Ministry of Health reported 1,884 new Covid-19 infections today, a new record for daily cases.

The previous record was set on November 6 with 1,755 new cases.

The increase was largely contributed by the Teratai group, which involves workers from Top Glove factories in Klang.

Selangor accounted for the majority of new cases with 1,203 infections. Of this, 1,060 of them were from the Teratai group.

There were also 883 recoveries, but the record number of new infections today means that the patient load for Covid-19 hospitals increased by nearly 1,000 in a single day.

In Kuala Lumpur, 101 of the 196 new cases were from the Damanlela cluster, linked to the construction site of a shopping center in Damansara.

Today’s new cases place accumulated infections at 56,659 compared to 42,480 accumulated recoveries.

Main indicators:

Active cases – 13,842 ↑ (999 more than the previous day)

Intensive care patients – 115 ↑ (nine more than the day before)

Intubated patients – 48 ↑ (two more than the previous day)

Deaths – 2 ↓ (less than the previous day)

The two new deaths put the death toll at 337. Details about the death are as follows:

Patient 51,858 (Death 336) – 80-year-old Malaysian male. He passed away at Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sabah. No pre-existing conditions were reported.

Patient 53,951 (Death 337) – 58-year-old Malaysian woman. He died at the Sabah Children’s and Women’s Hospital. He had a history of high blood pressure, heart disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

No new Covid-19 cases were reported in Labuan, Sarawak, Pahang, Malacca, and Terengganu for today.

The director general of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Noor Hisham, in a statement, also reported the detection of four new Covid-19 clusters.

On the other hand, three groups were declared terminated. They are the Jambul group, the Surat group and the Hampar group.

A total of 168 of the 334 clusters are still active. However, only 46 groups reported new cases today.

Today’s four new clusters are the Star cluster Y Indah Mas Cluster in the Klang valley, Teja Kasih Cluster in Perak and Kobena Cluster in Johor.
