Malaysia Reports 57 New Coronavirus Cases With Two New Deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian health authorities reported 57 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday (April 30), bringing the cumulative total to 6,002 cases.

Chief Health Officer Noor Hisham Abdullah said that of the new cases, 25 are imported, while the rest are local broadcasts.


He said Thursday he also saw 84 more patients discharged, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 4,171 or 69.5 percent of total cases, while 36 are being treated in intensive care units with 14 of them on ventilators.

“The total number of cases of active infectivity of COVID-19 is 1,729 cases. They have been isolated and have received treatment, ”he said at a daily press conference for COVID-19.

Dr. Noor Hisham also reported two deaths, bringing the number of COVID-19 deaths in Malaysia to 102 or 1.7 percent of total positive cases.

He said death number 101 was a 64-year-old Malaysian man with a history of blood cancer.

“He had been admitted to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Pahang on April 12 and died on April 29 at 4.14 pm,” he said.

Case 102 was another 72-year-old Malaysian man with a history of hypertension.

“He began receiving treatment at Sarawak General Hospital on April 16 and died at 12.55 p.m. from today. The ministry extends its condolences to their families, ”said Dr. Noor Hisham.
