Malaysia Records Highest Daily Toll with 2,188 Cases (Updated)

KUALA LUMPURMalaysia recorded the highest daily number of new Covid-19 infections for the first time today with 2,188 cases.

Health Director General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that Selangor still recorded the highest figure with 1,623 cases, most of which involved the Teratai group, or 1,511 cases.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, no imported cases were reported today, while local proliferations saw Selangor registering the highest number of cases with 1,623 cases, Sabah (232), Perak (112), Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur ( 90), Negeri Sembilan (73) and Johor (19).

“Penang has 15 cases, Kedah (14), Kelantan (six), Melaka (two), Labuan Federal Territory (one) and Sarawak (one),” he said.

He said that the Bah Layangan Group ended today, bringing the number of active groups being monitored to 167 groups.

Commenting on the latest status of workplace clusters, Dr. Noor Hisham said that the drastic increase in the Klang Valley and Selangor areas lately was closely related to workplace clusters.

” To date, there are 119 clusters that are linked to the workplace. Of the total, 36 conglomerates had been declared terminated, while 83 are still active to date.

” A total of 77,201 people have been examined and 12,079 positive cases for Covid-19 have been found. This involved 4,398 citizens and 7,681 non-citizens, ” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham said that the Teratai Cluster in the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Selangor recorded the highest cases since the Covid-19 pandemic occurred in the country, namely 4,036 cases, followed by the Tapak Bena Cluster.
