The cleaning supervisor was found in a drain with a stab wound and head injuries at Singapore’s Tanah Merah ferry terminal in 2016.

SINGAPORE: A Malaysian man was sentenced today by the Singaporean Court to life imprisonment and 18 strokes of a cane for causing the death of a 54-year-old woman with a lawn mower in 2016.

This was confirmed by one of his attorneys, Johannes Hadi, of Eugene Thuraisingam LLP.

The jail sentence for Ahmad Muin Yaacob, 27, would start from the date of his arrest on December 19, 2016, Johannes said.

Johannes represented Muin along with two other attorneys, Eugene Thuraisingam and Chooi Jing Yen.

On November 24, 2016, the day of the incident, Muin was employed by CSP Maintenance Pte Ltd and worked as a cleaner at the Tanah Merah ferry terminal.

Muin, who left the republic the same day for Pasir Puteh, Kelantan, was turned over to the Singapore police on December 19, 2016.

The Malaysian police had asked him on December 18, 2016 to report to the police station to help with the case following a request from the Singapore police.

The deceased, Maimunah Awang, was the terminal’s cleaning supervisor.

The autopsy report indicated that the cause of death was “stab hemorrhage in the neck, with head trauma”.

His body was discovered in a 1.8-meter-deep drain outside the clean-up room on November 25, 2016.
