PUTRAJAYA (September 3): Malaysia is in no rush to receive the Covid-19 vaccine as it is of the utmost importance to ensure that the vaccine is effective and safe for use, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba .

At the moment, he said the government was still waiting for vaccine-producing countries to conduct clinical trials involving three phases, with the last phase being a human trial.

“We are waiting for the countries to do the clinical trials … China has started the trials in the United Arab Emirates and Brazil.

“Russia has not started the third phase of clinical trials,” he said when asked about reports that some countries have started negotiations to purchase the vaccine.

Speaking to reporters after launching the celebration of World Food Safety Day 2020 here today, Dr. Adham said that the Ministry of Health is always in contact with vaccine-producing countries.

On the detection of Covid-19 carried out in public markets, he said that the ministry had carried out the detection in 464 markets throughout the country and 36,919 samples were taken.

“Of that total, 287 (0.87%) tested positive for Covid-19,” he said, adding that inspections in public markets would be carried out continuously.
