PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): Malaysia is in no rush to receive a Covid-19 vaccine, as ensuring that the vaccine is effective and safe for use is of utmost importance, says Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Adham Baba. (Photo).
For now, he said the government was still waiting for vaccine-producing countries to carry out clinical trials in three phases, with the last phase being human testing.
“We are waiting for countries to conduct clinical trials … China has started trials in the United Arab Emirates and Brazil.
“Russia has not started the third phase of clinical trials,” he said when asked about reports that some countries have started negotiations for the purchase of a vaccine.
Speaking to journalists after the launch of the 2020 World Food Safety Day celebration here today, Dr Adham said that the Ministry of Health is always in contact with vaccine producing countries.
On the detection of Covid-19 carried out in public markets, he said that the ministry had carried out the detection in 464 markets throughout the country and 36,919 samples were taken.
“Of that total, 287 (0.87%) tested positive for Covid-19,” he said, adding that inspections in public markets would be carried out on an ongoing basis. – Bernama
