KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia hopes that Brunei will consider the proposal to establish the reciprocal greenway in an effort to revive the economic activities of the two countries that had been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin relayed the message to the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Malaysia, Ambassador Dato Paduka Alaihuddin Mohd Taha, when the latter paid him a courtesy visit to his parliament office yesterday.
Muhyiddin in a post on his Facebook page said that Alaihuddin came to say goodbye as his term in Malaysia will end later this month.
He said that at the meeting, they also discussed efforts to further improve existing bilateral relations between the two countries in various aspects, including challenges and measures to overcome the impact of the Covid-19 outbreak.
“As neighboring countries, we agree that Malaysia and Brunei must not make the pandemic an obstacle to further enhance existing cooperation,” the prime minister said in the message.
Muhyiddin also expressed his gratitude that the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, had agreed to his request for an official visit to the country.
“I conveyed my intention to make the visit in the first quarter of next year, coinciding with the 23rd Annual Leaders’ Consultation,” he said.
At the meeting, Muhyiddin also thanked Alaihuddin for his services, contributions and friendship during his six years in Malaysia. – Called
