PETALING JAYA (THE STAR / ASIA NEWS NETWORK) – Malaysia extended existing restrictions under the motion control order (MCO) recovery phase from Friday (January 1) to March 31, Chief Minister Ismail said Sabri Yaakob.

He said the Health Ministry carried out risk assessments and found that cases were still increasing significantly.

“The government agreed to extend the recovery MCO to the whole country except Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah, as well as other localities placed under conditional or enhanced MCO,” he said.

He also said that some worker shelters in Johor, the Kejora Juara shelter in Muar and the Westlite 1 and 2 shelters in Senai, have been placed under improved MCO from January 2-15.

The Health Ministry identified three new Covid-19 clusters in the country, including Selangor, Johor, and Penang on Friday (January 1).

The country recorded 2,068 more Covid-19 infections on New Year’s Day, bringing the country’s total confirmed cases to 115,078.

Three people also died from the coronavirus, bringing Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll to 474 cases.
