PETALING JAYA: The total number of cumulative Covid-19 cases in Malaysia has reached the 10,000 mark.

The 62 new infections recorded yesterday meant that the number of cases stood at 10,031 now.

The country crossed the 9,000 mark on Aug. 3 when cases totaled as high as 9,001 that day.

Chief Health Officer Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah (Photo) said that as of yesterday, the local transmission cases involved 41 Malaysians and 20 foreigners.

The only imported case was a Malaysian, it said in a statement yesterday.

He also said 59 cases were from Sabah, including 48 from the Benteng group in Lahad Datu.

Other states where new infections were found were Kedah and Penang.

In Kedah, there was a new case of the Sungai group.

This group started when a health worker in a private medical center became infected.

As for the Penang case, it involved a relative of case numbers 9,397 and 9,459.

They all lived in the same house, said Dr. Noor Hisham.

He also said that no new deaths were reported, meaning the number of deaths remained at 128, or 1.28% of the total number of cases.

Dr. Noor Hisham said there were 15 patients treated in the intensive care unit while three were on ventilators.

Another 26 patients recovered yesterday, bringing total recoveries to 9,235 or 92.1% so far.
