RULE: The government cannot shut down the country indefinitely and not allow people to move freely, said Chief Minister (security group) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri. (pix)

“In the end, we have to allow them to be free as Covid-19 will always be around us like dengue and so on,” he told reporters after an audience with the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail in Istana Arau here . , today.

Among the audience was the Raja Muda from Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.

Also present were Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man, Army Chief General Datuk Zamrose Mohd Zain, and Secretary General of the Defense Ministry, Datuk Seri Muez Abd Aziz.

Ismail said that when the government allowed people freedom of movement, everyone should take preventive measures to avoid getting infected.

“As such, people have to comply with all standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as all instructions announced by the government from time to time. I think if everyone cooperates, the Covid-19 graph could flatten out, ”he said.

He said that many countries do not have movement control, such as Taiwan, where people are disciplined and practice self-control so much that Covid-19 did not spread through the country.

Commenting on the increase in Covid-19 cases in recent days, Ismail said that the total number of detected cases increased after the government imposed mandatory tests on all foreign workers in the country.

Yesterday 1,810 new cases were reported and the previous day 2,234 cases were registered.

“There are 888,000 workers (foreign workers) in the country … ‘imagine’ if five percent were positive, the figure would increase dramatically and we have to be prepared with sufficient number of beds if there are Covid-19 cases among them.

“What I want to emphasize here is that ‘as long as’ it doesn’t spread in the community, we could control it as the number involved only foreign workers,” he said. He said that at the same time, the Ministry of Human Resources is intensifying the inspection of workers’ accommodation, as many factories did not adhere to Law 446 (Minimum Standards of Housing and Services for Workers Act of 1990) where employers must provide conducive housing for its workers.

“Two actions must be taken, namely smear test for Covid-19 on foreign workers and we must ensure that their living condition is more conducive as living in crowded conditions with 20-30 people in an apartment can make the disease spreads rapidly, “he said.

Previously, the government made it mandatory for foreign factory workers to be tested for Covid-19 starting on December 1.

In another development, Ismail said the government has added two more new posts in the northern region of the country, as well as increasing the purchase of new equipment, such as drones, to intensify surveillance on the Malaysian-Thai border. -Called
