Police said the two Malaysians, who worked as computer analysts, were arrested on September 14 with the help of Interpol.

PETALING JAYA: The US Department of Justice (DoJ) submitted a request to extradite two suspects involved in a wide-ranging hacking effort that ranged from video game developers to pro-democracy activists.

Bukit Aman, in a statement today, said that the extradition request was sent on September 3.

“The Attorney General’s Office has accepted the request,” said Bukit Aman CID Director Huzir Mohamed.

He said the request is in line with the 1992 Extradition Act, related to the extradition of fugitive criminals.

The United States had said on Wednesday it had indicted five Chinese residents and two Malaysian businessmen involved in the hacking.

Huzir said the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates Court issued a provisional arrest warrant for the two suspects on September 11.

He added that on September 14, at 8.45 am, the police and Interpol arrested the two Malaysian men who were working as computer analysts.

He said both suspects were carrying out the sale of gaming artifacts illegally, adding that the forensic police department has seized evidence and related material linked to their company in the US.
